Carlos Calzadilla

Carlos is the President of Brooklyn Young Democrats dedicated to strengthening our party and community. With a track record of bringing people together, Carlos has worked tirelessly to help elect Democrats up and down the ballot. In 2024, Carlos launched the PAC, Disrupt Project 2025, focused on educating young people about the dangers of Project 2025. The organization reached 300 million impressions and over 40 million individual people. His background in community organizing has well-equipped him to hit the ground running and recruit new members across the state.

As the Director of Community Relations for State Senator Andrew Gounardes, Carlos works tirelessly to help craft policies that move our state forward. He also led the fights with Brooklyn Young Democrats in southern Brooklyn, helping elect many democrats in purple and red districts. He is deeply passionate about politics, a value instilled in him at a young age. His great-grandmother fought against dictatorships in Cuba, and his grandfather opposed the Castro regime, enduring political imprisonment. From their stories, Carlos learned the importance of free and fair elections and the vital role of fighting for one’s community.

Now, more than ever, we need a president who can transform and energize the Young Democrats. Last election we saw Republicans make gains across the state, Carlos is ready to lead the fight to protect and elect Democrats who are committed to keeping our state a safe haven from leaders like Donald Trump.

Politics can be intimidating—especially for young people. That’s why we need to meet them where they are: on college campuses, in coffee shops, at local bars, and in the spaces they already gather. We can’t wait for them to come to us—it’s time to take the initiative and bring the conversation to them.

Finally, we have to expand our reach through creative content. How do we engage young people beyond political insiders? By showcasing our incredible elected officials, collaborating with influencers, and producing compelling digital content. From podcasts and TikTok to Instagram, Discord, and livestreams, we need a content team that meets young people where they are.

The future of politics belongs to us.
Let’s make it bold, exciting,
and unstoppable—together.

We also need to train the next generation of political organizers. Through a Master Class series, we can equip young people with the tools to become effective campaigners, strategists, and grassroots organizers. By creating a pipeline of well-trained political operatives, we can deploy talent statewide and strengthen our ability to organize, mobilize, and win.

The upcoming elections will be critical in shaping the future of our state. To make a real impact, we need to be strong, strategic, and well-organized to support Democratic candidates at every level.

Right now, with only 15 Young Democrat chapters across the state, we’re not reaching enough communities. We need leadership committed to expanding our presence and building new chapters where young voices are underrepresented.

Building a stronger and more connected
movement starts now.

Chapter Growth

Winning starts with empowering our chapters to grow. That means giving them the tools and resources to recruit new members, raise funds, and build their influence. Stronger chapters can then channel their energy into helping local candidates succeed—turning grassroots enthusiasm into real electoral victories.

Building a Network

By building a network of engaged and motivated Young Democrats, we can turn our organization into a driving force for wins up and down the ballot, strengthening the party at every level. But winning isn’t just about elections—it’s about showing up.

Bold action

We need to take bold action, now. Young Democrats must be visible, vocal, and fearless—marching in rallies, standing with marginalized communities, and taking on Trump and the billionaire class. People need to see us organizing, mobilizing, and fighting for what’s right.

launching points

Expanding our reach means growing chapters in all 62 counties. Yes, it’s hard. Right now, we have only 16 chapters covering 52 counties. But we can’t count a single Democrat out. By creating anchor chapters in key areas, we can build launching points for surrounding communities—expanding our presence until every young Democrat in New York has a place to plug in and take action. of services offered and highlight any special benefits or features.

The moment calls for leadership that is relentless, strategic,
and unafraid.

Let's rise to the challenge
and win—together.

To truly grow our movement, we must make it fun, accessible, and easy to get involved. That means hosting exciting events, creating social opportunities beyond politics, and ensuring that joining feels welcoming and engaging.

We also need to build a pipeline for young leaders. A resume bank and job connections will help young people access opportunities in politics and public service, making it easier to turn their passion into action.
